Cozy the Day Away Recs (Oct. 2025)

The sale is upon us, and I thought I’d shout out some books I’ve enjoyed. Rules of engagement here:

  • This is a temporary post; I’ll take it down after the sale is complete, because I’m going to link to the sale pages. The sale is only active Oct. 11 and 12, 2025.
  • No one on this list has requested to be here, they do not know I exist, and they do not support or associate with me in any way. (Except for the first one, which, well.) I am speaking solely as a reader who liked some books.
  • I don’t buy from Amazon nowadays, but I used to; some of these books may be Zon-exclusive and some may not be. A lot of cozy fantasy is KU/Zon-exclusive oriented, so that’s a treat for those of you on that system.
  • Read descriptions, read content notes if applicable, don’t blame others if you didn’t like a book because that’s ridiculous, and enjoy!

Tales of a Stranger Sister by J. Robert Matthewson

Obviously: I helped to edit this book, and I’m married to its author. But I genuinely enjoyed it as well. It’s the story of a woman who is pulled into another world, the boy who ends up as her new brother, and the world they both live in.

Fool’s Proof by Eva Sandor (Heart of Stone Adventures)

I’ve only read the first one so far, but all four are on sale. A comedic fantasy, which I don’t run into as often these days, that has both heart and some pointy bits.

The Tenfold Tenants by E.V. Belknap

One of my favorite cozy(adjacent) books so far; it has a wisp of tired-of-this cynicism in its narrator, a fun take on villainry, and a beautifully light touch on traumatic character backstory. Also, it’s funny.

Moon-Bright Tides by RoAnna Sylver

A novelette about a witch of the tides and a scaly-deep-sea-gnarly-style mermaid who fall in love at the edge of the sea.

Haroun and the Study of Mischief by Lynn Strong

This one is brand new, don’t pass it up! Set in a Middle Eastern-style fantasy world, this story follows a mild-mannered priest of a god of generosity as he scrambles to find (and maybe impersonate) a missing prince, while acting as the seeing-eye human to a blind dogfolk priest of a god of watchfulness. A fun caper without a lot of intense peril. Also check out Chai and Cat-tales, set in the same world.

Pastiche by Celia Lake

Celia Lake is one of those authors in the category of “I just like what they’re doing and tend to enjoy everything I try.” In this case, “what they’re doing” is an interconnected set of romance novels in an alternate magical Britain [that isn’t funding hateful causes, thx].

Non-Player Character by Veo Corva

I had stumbled across this book on itch.io; I think this is its first outing in Cozy the Day Away? At any rate, this is a “pulled into our gaming group” style isekai that centers the group’s dynamics, the narrator’s experiences and communication, and has some neat worldbuilding that breaks from standard D&D. Really enjoyed it.

How to Get a Girlfriend (When You’re a Terrifying Monster) by Marie Cardno

I keep reccing this, and I’m not going to stop! Cozy horror romance between a magical researcher and a sliver of an eldritch hivemind. Extremely weird (complimentary). <3

Cursed Cocktails by S.L. Rowland

I feel like “everyone” has read this one already, but hey! There have to be some people who haven’t! Go for it. I liked it.

Happy reading!
