I’ve updated the AI Use disclaimer with less snark, clearer wording, and an update about how I intend to move forward. In short, I used the program ProWritingAid to search for frequently used words, punctuation errors, and similar editing tasks in the editing phase of Strangers. This means that the book is in effect AI-generated in a lot of people’s eyes, even though I wrote all the words. Any touch of an AI program taints the whole book as well as the author permanently. I made a terrible mistake.
It is enormously painful to me that I have ruined a year’s worth of work and a book I was proud of in the name of trying to “make things easier.” I’ve learned my lesson. I loved Strangers, I no longer feel as though I have a right to call it my work, and I brought that on myself.
I will still release it, because it is so close to being finished and I cannot bring myself to start over. I will include a disclaimer about the software that was used to make it, and how it was used.
I will start over on Therapist 9, since a couple of searches were run on that draft as well.
That said, for what it’s worth, everything I have released up to this point is still clean.
