“Why don’t you have audio?”
I’d love to have audiobook versions of my books! Lots of people enjoy them, they’re great for accessibility, and they’re a bigger part of the book landscape every day.
However, I don’t have the money to produce them. Based on the information I’ve found (one example here), a low estimate for a ~150,000-word audiobook is around $5,000 US. I have seven books of that length so far. I do not have $35,000 to spare. Even producing one of my two series would be ~$15,000. And that’s not getting into multiple narrators, which would increase the complexity and price.
I will not use AI narration. Ever.
DIY/narrated-by-the-author is cool if you have the equipment and relevant experience, neither of which I have.
Kickstarter is a useful tool for a lot of authors, but at this point I don’t have a reader base big enough to support a major crowdfunding effort. Someday, if I get to that stage, I’ll look into crowdfunding.
Until then, I’m sorry to say that I don’t have the capacity for audio.
I’m not interested in offers or comments about this, because I don’t want to spend my time sorting scams from real offers.
If you’d like to see an audio version someday, please recommend one of my books to someone who might like it, or leave a review about the book anywhere that works for you. In this way, you can help me grow my reader base toward a point where I could finance an audiobook, either through crowdfunding or from the proceeds from the ebooks and paperbacks. Every little bit helps.
Thanks!
